White Sox Set Starting Rotation for 2023 Season
Allan Henry-USA TODAY Sports

Dylan Cease will set the tone for the White Sox starting rotation this year.

Baseball season is so close you can almost taste it. The anticipation only built Friday as all MLB clubs announced their starting pitchers to open the 2023 season. Dylan Cease was named the Chicago White Sox Opening Day starter, which in turn set the order for the rest of the rotation.

Here's how first-year manager Pedro Grifol will line up his starting pitchers to begin the 2023 campaign:

  1. Dylan Cease
  2. Lance Lynn
  3. Lucas Giolito
  4. Mike Clevinger
  5. Michael Kopech

This deployment is a result of each pitcher's ability and the scheduling of their build-up processes during Spring Training.

Notably, Cease has supplanted Giolito as the White Sox Opening Day starter. Giolito pitched first for the South Siders in each of the last three seasons, but Cease's Cy Young runner-up 2022 campaign made him the obvious choice to take over the top spot this year.

Additionally, Clevinger slotting into the No. 4 role puts Kopech in the final rotation spot. With the White Sox playing a four-game series against the Houston Astros to open the season, this alignment puts Kopech in line to start the home opener against the San Francisco Giants.

As the White Sox look to rebound from a disappointing 2022 campaign, the starting rotation's ability to command the strike zone will be of utmost importance. If the five aforementioned names are able to work ahead in counts and pound the strike zone, they could comprise one of the best starting rotations in baseball.
