White Sox Allow Double Digits Again, Drop Game 2 to Rockies
Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago White Sox have dropped six of their last seven games after losing their second straight contest to the Colorado Rockies on Saturday night. The White Sox couldn't escape the first inning unscathed for the second consecutive night. They've allowed 25 runs in two games to the Rockies and are 27 games below .500.

Sox starter Jesse Scholtens suffered a fate similar to that of Michael Kopech. Scholtens allowed three runs in the first inning after being staked to a one-run lead thanks to Elvis Andrus, who stole home in the top half of the frame. Scholtens walked four and allowed two hits in the first, leading to three Rockies runs.

Brendan Rodgers's grounder was mishandled by Andrus, allowing him to reach first base and Ezequiel Tovar to score from second. Elias Diaz made it 3-1 with a two-run single with the bases loaded.

The Rockies added two more runs in the second, fifth, seventh, and eighth innings in the 11-5 win. Elhuris Montero knocked in four runs on a two-run fourth-inning triple and a two-run eighth-inning double. Charlie Blackmon blasted a two-run homer for the Rockies in the seventh.

Some Runs and No Relief

Chicago added a run in the third when Andrus doubled and scored on Andrew Benintendi's single. In the fifth, recently called-up infielder Lenyn Sosa's base hit plated a pair of runs. Luis Robert Jr. belted a solo homer in the eighth inning for the White Sox' fifth and final run. Robert Jr.'s homer was his 33rd of the year.

Rockies starter Kyle Freeland notched his first win in three months despite being charged with four runs in five innings. The veteran lefty came into the game 0-9 with a 6.19 ERA in his last 14 starts.

Scholtens allowed five in three innings. Tanner Banks, Jimmy Lambert, and Lane Ramsey each allowed two runs in relief of the Pale Hose starter.
