Watch: Shohei Ohtani takes over MLB home run lead with tape-measure shot

There is a new home run leader in Major League Baseball and it is Los Angeles Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani.

Ohtani jumped over New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso with a 437-foot tape measure shot off of Kansas City Royals reliever Taylor Clarke during their game on Saturday afternoon.

Have a look.

That home run gave Ohtani a league-leading 23 long balls on the season, one ahead of Alonso (who remains sidelined with a wrist injury).

It was also Ohtani's 150th career home run in the bigs.

Ohtani is again dominating the league as an elite power hitter and starting pitcher and for the third consecutive year is going to be a top contender for the American League MVP. He won the award two years ago, before finishing as the runner-up to New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge last fall.

He is on an incredible run right now at the plate. Ohtani's home run on Saturday was his seventh in his past nine games and eighth in his past 12 games.

He is eligible for free agency after this season and is in line to become the highest-paid baseball player ever, due to his ability as a dual-threat on the mound and at the dish. He is two elite players in one. There is nobody like him baseball.
