Watch: Diamondbacks outfielder builds sandcastle during 9-1 rout

Arizona's win against Milwaukee on Monday was the equivalent of a day at the beach for outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

In the top of the eighth inning of an easy 9-1 win, cameras caught Gurriel building an impressive sandcastle.

He chipped in with a two-run single as part of a six-run first inning for Arizona. With the Brewers offering no resistance and the game in hand, there was little else for Gurriel to do than turn his life into a beach. He finished the game 1-for-5 at the plate.

The Diamondbacks have exceeded expectations during the first half of the season and Gurriel is a part of the team's surprising rise.

Arizona entered the season +4000 to win the NL West and its win total was set at 75.5 games. After Monday's win, the Diamondbacks are 44-29, four games ahead of the San Francisco Giants.

Gurriel is third on the team in home runs (11), fourth in slugging (.506) and sixth in batting average (.280).

The Diamondbacks last made the postseason in 2017, winning the NL Wild Card Game before being swept in the NLDS. Gurriel played the past five seasons for Toronto and was a part of two playoff rosters (2020, 2022). He was traded to the Diamondbacks this offseason.

Arizona is off to a good start in its pursuit of ending its drought, but if it reaches the playoffs, is hoping to be stronger than the sandcastles Gurriel built on Monday night.
