Twins call up hitting machine Edouard Julien
USA TODAY Sports

With Joey Gallo going on the injured list with soreness on his right side, the Minnesota Twins have called up hitting phenom Edouard Julien. He's starting at second base and batting eighth in his MLB debut Wednesday against the White Sox.

Julien is Minnesota's fourth-ranked prospect (per MLB Pipeline) and has been a hitting machine. The 23-year-old has hit .276/.417/.517 at Triple-A St. Paul, including a pair of homers and a double in just 29 at-bats.

That's fresh after he hit the cover off the ball in spring training before batting leadoff for Team Canada in the World Baseball Classic, where he went 7 for 13 with two homers, two doubles and five walks while leading all WBC batters with a 1.821 OPS.

He batted .300 with a .931 OPS at Double-A Wichita last summer and then slashed .400/.563/.686 in the Arizona Fall League. This spring, he slugged .739 and had a .348 batting average with three homers in just 23 at-bats.

The Twins and White Sox will play under sunny skies and at 12:10 p.m. CT Wednesday. Sonny Gray is on the mound for the Twins and Lucas Giolito starts for Chicago.
