Texas Rangers' Marcus Semien Has the Longest Hit Streak in Baseball This Season

Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien extended his hitting streak to 21 games on Friday night against the Seattle Mariners.

With that, he now has the longest streak in baseball this season. It should be noted that Freddie Freeman of the Dodgers has a 20-game hitting streak as we write this, but his game has not started yet.

Semien's single came on a fastball from Mariners starter Luis Castillo in the sixth inning. It was the first hit of the game for Texas and eventually led to the game's first run.

Semien advanced to third on a single by Corey Seager and then scored on a sac fly by Nathaniel Lowe.

Like most of the Rangers this year, Semien has been excellent. At the time of this posting, he's hitting .296 this year with eight home runs and 44 RBI. He's also stolen seven bases and has posted an OPS of .848.

Semien is in his second year with Texas and is hoping to help the Rangers get to the playoffs for the first time since 2016. After signing Corey Seager, Semien, Jon Gray, Jacob deGrom, Andrew Heaney and Nathan Eovaldi over the last two offseasons, the Rangers are prime to do it. They entered play on Friday at 35-20 and in first place in the American League West.

For his career, Semien is a .257 hitter with 194 homers and 609 RBI. He's played for the Chicago White Sox, Oakland Athletics, and Toronto Blue Jays -- in addition to Texas.
