Tampa Bay Rays Lose Key Outfielder For Stretch Run
USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Rays , still trying to catch the Baltimore Orioles in the American League East race, have lost key outfielder Jose Siri to the injured list.

Per Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Florida:

Jose Siri does have a fracture. They’re hopeful it’s only a few weeks out but they’ll have more info tomorrow

It is a small “hairline” fracture, as it was explained by Siri.

Siri was hit by a pitch on Monday night against the Minnesota Twins.

It is a significant loss for the Rays, who are dealing with the season-ending injuries to Drew Rasmussen, Jeffrey Springs and Shane McClanahan, and the high probability that Wander Franco doesn't play again this season.

The 28-year-old Siri is only hitting .222 this year but features an incredibly valuable power-speed combo. He's got 25 home runs this season and has stolen 12 bases. He also plays very solid defense in the outfield.

He was acquired in 2022 in a trade with the Houston Astros. Overall, he's in his third major league season with Houston and Tampa Bay. He's a lifetime .223 hitter with 36 homers, 89 RBI and 29 steals.

The Rays are currently 89-56 on the year and trail the Orioles by 3.0 games in the American League East. They currently lead the chase for the top wild card spot in the American League over the Blue Jays and Rangers.

Tampa Bay will be in Minneapolis again on Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 7:40 p.m. ET as Zack Littell (TBR) pitches against Joe Ryan (MIN).
