Suitor For Chicago Cubs Infielder Nick Madrigal Exits the Race
USA TODAY Sports

Any rumors of a potential reunion between the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs middle infielder Nick Madrigal have been put to rest after the signing of Elvis Andrus.

It was always a longshot that the Cubs would trade Madrigal back to the club that drafted and developed him. But the possibility arose after the Cubs' signing of Dansby Swanson and the White Sox' need for a second baseman.

Madrigal became expendable despite his obvious talent and pedigree. The familiarity and previous relationship with the White Sox made for a natural fit and the rumor mill took off.

With Andrus in the picture on the South Side, Madrigal's future is likely with the Cubs, at least for a few more months. Hoerner and Swanson have the middle infield solidified. The only path to regular playing time for Madrigal would be at third base where there is an open competition.
