SP Mike Clevinger will reportedly be at White Sox camp despite ongoing domestic violence investigation

It seems that Chicago White Sox free agent acquisition Mike Clevinger will not be receiving similar treatment to Trevor Bauer despite an ongoing investigation from MLB into allegations of domestic violence.

Pitcher Trevor Bauer created headlines in 2021 when he was at the center of domestic violence allegations by several different women. The most notable of them came from a San Diego woman, and while they did not lead to charges from local authorities, they did set up an investigation by the league.

While MLB looked into the details of the serious claims again Bauer, the league placed the All-Star hurler on indefinite leave before an eventual record 324-game suspension. However, that has not at all been the case in regard to former San Diego Padres pitcher Mike Clevenger, and he was allowed to play in 2022 despite reports of an investigation started during the season.

In the offseason, the 31-year-old was signed by the Chicago White Sox, and it seems like the claims still won’t prohibit him from attending and playing in spring training games in 2023.

On Tuesday, The Athletic reported that “the ongoing investigation into accusations of domestic violence and child abuse made against Clevinger is not expected to be completed by the opening of spring training, and the veteran pitcher will not be placed on administrative leave either.”

In January, The Athletic broke the news about the Mike Clevinger investigation. And spoke with the mother of his 11-month child, who is the victim in the allegations against the six-year veteran.

Olivia Finestead told the outlet that she spoke with the league’s investigative department about “physical, verbal, and emotional abuse” against her by Clevinger. As well as “an incident from last June in which Finestead said Clevinger choked her, and another two weeks later when she said Clevinger slapped her in a hotel room when the team was playing the Dodgers and threw used chewing tobacco on their child.”

Mike Clevinger signed a two-year contract with the Chicago White Sox this winter that could be worth as much as $20 million.
