Report: Jurickson Profar, Padres agree to three-year, $21 million deal

Jurickson Profar is remaining with the San Diego Padres.

According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, Profar and the Padres agreed to a three-year, $21 million deal on Friday.

Profar was very valuable for the Padres last season. San Diego played him in five different positions during the pandemic-shortened season, though he saw most of his action in left field and second base. In 56 games, the 27-year-old slashed .278/.343/.428 with seven home runs and 25 RBIs.

The Friars acquired Profar in a trade with the Oakland Athletics after the 2019 season. The Curacao native beat out Brian Dozier for the second base job, but Jake Cronenworth took it over after his slow start to the year. Profar was then moved to left field after Tommy Pham's injury.

Profar has spent seven seasons in Major League Baseball. He spent the first five years of his career with the Texas Rangers before joining the A's and later the Padres.
