Red Sox SP Nathan Eovaldi expected to make Triple-A rehab start Sunday

After one major league pitcher wreaked havoc on the home clubhouse earlier this week, the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox will be welcoming in another member of Boston's starting rotation on a rehab assignment on Sunday.

Eovaldi went on the injured list nearly one month ago due to lower back inflammation. After initially holding onto hope he'd be able to pitch against the New York Yankees on Friday, fellow starter Michael Wacha was placed on the IL with an arm injury as well.

"Nasty Nate" made his first All-Star team in 2021, finishing the year 11-9 with a 3.75 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 195 strikeouts across 182 1/3 innings pitched in 32 starts. Through 12 outings this season, Eovaldi has gone 4-2 with a 3.16 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and has racked up 72 strikeouts in 68 1/3 innings pitched.

Boston dropped the first contest of an important four-game set against the division-leading New York Yankees on Thursday and are in third place, trailing their rivals by 15 games with their 45-38 record.
