Phillies' Prospect Will Become Starting Third Baseman
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Philadelphia Phillies have a ready-made roster for years to come after handing out massive contracts to some of the biggest stars in the game.

They are hoping to win their first World Series title since 2008 with this group before the front office eventually has to start turning over the roster.

But, when that time does come, one talent evaluator thinks the Phillies will be set at third base for the foreseeable future, with one of their star prospects ready to take over the job.

Jim Callis of MLB Pipeline made no secret about how highly he thinks of Aidan Miller when he called him the biggest steal of the 2023 MLB Draft's first round.

But, Callis took it even further when he said the talented 19-year-old would become Philadelphia's starting third basemen in the next couple years.

"He'll continue to climb in the rankings until he takes over the hot corner in Philadelphia in mid-2026, when he'll be 22," he predicts.

Wow, that is quite the statement.

The rankings Callis is referring to is MLB Pipeline's Top-100 list, which Miller currently ranks as the 90th overall player. Callis also alluded to the fact Miller will make a major leap in their new rankings coming out later in January.

Philadelphia's star prospect only played 20 games total during his first professional year of baseball this past season after coming directly out of high school.

10 of those were spent at the Rookie ball level where he slashed .414/.528/.483 with no homers and two RBI. He struggled a bit after his Single-A promotion, slashing .216/.341/.297 with two extra-base hits and zero home runs or RBI.

However, that limited sample size isn't stopping Callis from being extremely bullish on his future, saying Miller will hit for power and average after he was the best hitter in high school before entering the draft.

The Phillies' current third baseman, Alec Bohm, is arbitration eligible until after the 2026 season, so how the rising prospect affects his standing on the team will be seen.

Bohm's defense has been a point of contention throughout his career, but his bat has mostly made up for those deficiencies.

If Miller is ready to take over the starting role in 2026, some difficult decisions might have to be made.

But, it's exciting to know they potentially have their future starting third baseman in their pipeline already.
