One-Time Padres Pitcher Announces Retirement

After 17 seasons in Major League Baseball, Ian Kennedy is calling it a career.

Kennedy spent three seasons with the Padres from 2013-15, averaging a 4.16 career ERA. He was a solid contributor to the Friars, starting 73 games in San Diego.

Kennedy transitioned from a consistent starter to a reliever beginning in 2019. He will end his career on top after winning a World Series with the Texas Rangers.

Kennedy did not make the Rangers' postseason roster and held a 7.16 ERA this season. He ended the season on the injured list with a shoulder injury. The World Series win is his first, and last, as a professional.

Kennedy was drafted by the New York Yankees, where he spent the first three years of his career. He made it to the big leagues in 2007 and retired at age 38.

In 2011, Kennedy had the best season of his career with the Diamondbacks. He finished fourth in the NL Cy Young campaign and was 14th in MVP voting.
