Oakland Athletics Looking to Activate Top Pitching Prospect From Long Stay on Injured List
USA TODAY Sports

The Oakland Athletics , who no longer own the worst record in baseball, are looking to activate starting pitcher and top pitching prospect Mason Miller from the injured list this week.

Per Martin Gallegos of MLB.com:

Kotsay said the A’s will look to activate Mason Miller off the IL at some point this week.

Miller is the No. 3 prospect in the A's organization and made his major league debut earlier this year. Armed with an electric fastball, he went 0-2 with a 3.38 ERA before going down with elbow issues. He struck out 22 batters in 21.1 innings.

The following comes from his MLB.com prospect profile:

A power arm who can light up the radar gun at triple digits, Miller also brings what is looking more and more like a wipeout slider. He continues to work on integrating a mid-80s changeup as a third offering, though that pitch still could use some developing.

There’s no question Miller can throw a bunch of strikes with his big arm, and his 6-foot-5, 220-pound frame seems durable enough to hold up as a starter

As the A's complete an overall dreadful season, the activation of Miller will be a nice storyline to follow for the rest of the year. Any optimism heading into 2024 is welcome optimism.

The A's enter play on Monday at 42-95 and with a .307 winning percentage. They are starting a new series with the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday.

At the time of this posting, the Jays lead 3-1 in the sixth inning.
