Newcomer Colton Cowser helps Orioles top Yankees

Colton Cowser hit an RBI single in his major league debut, Felix Bautista recorded a four-out save and the Baltimore Orioles earned a 6-3 victory over the host New York Yankees Wednesday night.

Cowser became the latest prospect to join the Orioles when he was promoted after hitting .330 with 10 homers and 40 RBIs for Triple-A Norfolk.

The 2021 first-round pick popped out and grounded out in his first two at-bats before coming through during Baltimore's four-run sixth inning against Nick Ramirez (0-1) and Michael King.

The Orioles produced four straight one-out hits, including Cowser's single to right that scored Cedric Mullins, who began the rally with a double and took third on an infield single by former Yankee Aaron Hicks.

After Cowser's hit, King replaced Ramirez, and Jordan Westburg hit a sinking liner that eluded Jake Bauers when the left fielder attempted to make a diving catch. Bauers' failed attempt allowed Hicks and Cowser to score, giving the Orioles a 3-2 lead.

Baltimore got its fourth run when Adam Frazier hit a ground ball to shortstop Anthony Volpe and catcher Kyle Higashioka dropped the throw as Westburg scored.

After Baltimore starter Dean Kremer struck out a career-high 10 and pitched seven innings while yielding two runs (one earned), Yennier Cano allowed Volpe's 12th homer to open the eighth.

Cano got the first two outs before Bautista entered with a runner on first, and he retired Giancarlo Stanton on a flyout.

Ryan O'Hearn increased Baltimore's lead with a two-run homer in the ninth, and then Bautista finished off his 23rd save.

Josh Donaldson hit his ninth homer and Higashioka hit an RBI single for the Yankees, who had scored 14 runs to win the first two games of the four-game series.

The Orioles went ahead after the game was delayed for a little over 15 minutes in the fifth when an errant throw by shortstop Gunnar Henderson sailed O'Hearn's head and hit YES Network cameraman Pete Stendel, who was positioned adjacent to the New York dugout.

After getting medical attention, Stendel was removed from Yankee Stadium via a medical cart.

Kremer (9-7) gave up four hits and issued one walk.

New York rookie Randy Vasquez allowed three hits in five scoreless innings. He walked three and fanned one.
