MLB Futures: This Bay Area-based pitcher has very good odds of winning NL Cy Young

You don't have to live in the Bay Area to know that the state of Major League Baseball in the region isn't very pretty. But despite the murky vibes lingering ahead of the 2024 season, there is one player that oddsmakers are actually pretty high on to win end-of-season honors.

Sure, the San Francisco Giants couldn't woo Shohei Ohtani and the fan base's opinion of Farhan Zaidi is just as bad as the rest of the country's clouded perception of the City by the Bay. Yet, even with the Giants listed at -235 odds at DraftKings to miss the postseason in 2024 — opposed to +190 odds they play in October — one of their starting pitchers has rather favorable odds to win the National League Cy Young Award.

Enter, Logan Webb. Noted Rocklin, California, native and master at expertly throwing shade online as well as in interviews where he's asked about the Los Angeles Dodgers. And as his social media profile reminds us in as few words as possible: He plays baseball.

He's also the third favorite at DK to win the NL Cy Young this season at +950 odds. Only Atlanta Braves ace Spencer Strider (+550) and Philadelphia Phillies starter Zack Wheeler (+800) have shorter odds.

How does Webb compare to the competition? Webb topped the opposition with a 3.35 ERA through 33 starts. Strider led the league with an astounding 20 wins in 2023, but Wheeler only had two more wins than Webb (11) did.

Of course, odds this long before the start of the 2024 campaign are bound to shake up once the season starts. And there are in-season factors like health — and in Wheeler's case, coming up on the end of his contract — that can play a role.

That being said, it may be worth it for bettors and fantasy managers to consider Webb. The future may be a bit unclear for the Giants, but oddsmakers seem pretty confident Webb will be Cy Young-worthy in 2024.
