MLB best bets, strikeout props for Monday 8/21: This Angels K prop is heaven sent

A 1-2 mark on Friday wasn't how we wanted to finish off last week, but we closed out a 12-3 week in strikeout props that helped us pick up more than seven units in five days. Let's keep the good times rolling with my three favorite K props for Monday's MLB slate. 

David Peterson under 4.5 Ks (-110 DraftKings)

David Peterson was relegated to the bullpen in July after starting the year with a 2-7 record and a 6.46 ERA as a starter. The big left-hander has since returned to the starting rotation, but he hasn't gone past the fourth inning in any of his last three starts. Now he has to face an Atlanta Braves lineup that's crushed lefties all season. The Braves rank No. 1 in MLB in batting average (.293) and OPS (.891) against lefties, plus they've been on fire of late with a league-high 6.9 runs per game over the last two weeks. Expect a short outing from Peterson Monday.

Javier Assad over 3.5 Ks (-138 FanDuel)

Javier Assad jumped to the starting rotation earlier this month and has pitched well for the Chicago Cubs since then. The right-hander has surrendered just five runs and struck out 13 batters in his last 20.1 innings pitched, and he's staring down a friendly matchup on Monday night. The Detroit Tigers have the second-most strikeouts in MLB over the last 15 days, and they've recorded the fifth-highest strikeout total against righties this season. This is a great spot for an over.

Lucas Giolito under 7.5 Ks (-140 FD)

The Los Angeles Angels can't be feeling too good about their key trade deadline acquisition. Since joining his new team, Lucas Giolito has given up 19 earned runs and six homers in four starts. He's also averaged only 4.75 strikeouts per start in that span. In fact, the right-hander has gone over 7.5 Ks just once in his last eight starts. The Cincinnati Reds haven't been lighting it up offensively, but this number is simply too high. Take the under.
