Minnesota Twins Get Injury Updates on Pair of Key Contributors

With position players reporting to spring training in less than three weeks, the Minnesota Twins have a little more clarity on the injury statuses of infielders Jose Miranda and Alex Kirilloff, both of whom had surgery in October.

Per Dan Hayes of 'The Athletic:'

The labrum procedure Kirilloff underwent was far less invasive than he and the Twins expected. At TwinsFest, Kirilloff said he’s starting to ramp up now after beginning to hit earlier this month. Kirilloff’s goal is to be ready for live at-bats next month and to play when spring training games begin Feb. 23.

After months of uncertainty and attempted rehabs, Miranda finally had scar tissue removed from his labrum and rotator cuff in an Oct. 4 procedure. Miranda was given a timeline of three to four months and feels “pretty good.” Currently, Miranda is hitting off a machine and began to throw two weeks ago.

“There are some days it feels good, some days it feels so so,” Miranda said.

Miranda’s expectation is he would start playing as a designated hitter in spring training and work his way to the field..

The 26-year-old Kirilloff hit .270 last season with a .348 on-base percentage in 281 at-bats. He had 11 home runs and 41 RBI.

Lifetime, he's a .259 hitter.

As for Miranda, he played in just 40 games last season. He made his major league debut in 2022 and hit .268 that year with 15 home runs.

The Twins won the American League Central last season and advanced to the ALDS, losing the Houston Astros in that round.
