 Mets re-sign RP Adam Ottavino
Robert Edwards-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Mets have re-signed right-handed bullpen pitcher Adam Ottavino.

Per New York Post and MLB Network Insider Joel Sherman, the deal is for two years, worth $14.5 million, with an opt-out after 2023. ESPN Insider Jeff Passan reported that Ottavino has a potential $1 million in performance bonuses in both years of the contract.

The Mets continue to shore up their bullpen with Adam Ottavino re-signing:

All throughout 2022, the bullpen of the Mets was a glaring concern. Now, in this offseason, the Mets have re-signed their best two relievers from a year ago, Edwin Diaz and Ottavino, they signed David Robertson and traded for Brooks Raley. Talk about attacking a weakness.

The Mets can now feel much more comfortable with their top-four bullpen pitchers here. Talent, pedigree, and depth are all now at Buck Showalter’s disposal.

Ottavino gave the Mets some terrific production last season. He appeared in 66 games finishing with an impressive 2.06 ERA. The right-hander recorded 79 strikeouts in 65.2 innings pitched. Ottavino had a 6-3 record and the second-best WAR of his career (2.3).

Ottavino recently turned 37 and will be going into his 13th year in the MLB. The good thing for him in year two with the Mets will be the much-upgraded surrounding arms. Before turning games over to Diaz for the ninth, Ottavino now has two awesome arms alongside him in the right-hander Robertson and left-hander Raley.

With these four moves in Diaz, Robertson, Raley, and Ottavino, one could argue the Mets have done more than enough for their bullpen entering 2023. However, if Steve Cohen and Billy Eppler want to continue to be aggressive, there are still some great relief pitchers on the market. Either way, though, this Mets bullpen now has more than enough to feel confident in going into next year.
