Medlen on Braves pitching: 'It's going to feel a lot different.'
Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

"It's going to feel a lot different."

Former Atlanta Braves pitcher Kris Medlen discussed the pitching that Atlanta has entering the 2024 season. He highlighted losing guys like Kyle Wright and Michael Soroka after shipping them out to acquire more arms this offseason.

"You've got Charlie Morton coming back. His curveball usage was through the roof. He throws 97 still, but his breaking ball was 52% breaking balls which is pretty crazy."

Obviously, Atlanta's top two arms will help the Braves win some games in 2024. Spencer Strider is the current betting favorite to win the NL Cy Young and Max Fried will hopefully be able to bounce back after battling an injury last season.

"You've got (Spencer) Strider coming back after a career year," Medlen added. "A healthy Max Fried. right now and Reynaldo López."

Medlen spent some time focusing on López. Hearing from a former MLB pitcher who knows the game so well hyping up López would be a great addition to this pitching staff if it goes the way Medlen sees it.

"He obviously can be a starter but he can be a closer," Medlen said. "He can be a reliever. He can do it all and he has the stuff to do it all as well. That's an intriguing one for me. The Braves' ability to get guys who are bouncing back or didn't have the year that they wanted to."

Medlen and Jonny Venters joined the latest Braves Today Podcast to discuss their latest business venture - Legacy Sports Complex. They also talked about a ton of Braves topics as well. You can check it out below, on the Braves Today YouTube page, or wherever you get your podcasts.

They opened the facility in Suwanee, Georgia after recognizing the growing demand for a sports and fitness training facility that would provide quality training for all age groups, especially kids. Today, he announced the addition of Medlen to the company's ownership group.

“Kris’ passion for health and fitness, coupled with his knowledge and experience in collegiate and professional sports, aligns perfectly with the ethos of our team,” said Venters of his former teammate and new business partner. “We’re looking forward to working together and continuing to offer a five-star sports and fitness experience to all.”

The announcement comes less than two months after Venters welcomed former Atlanta Falcons Mohamed Sanu, Christian Blake, Sean Weatherspoon, and Elijah Wilkinson to the ownership team.
