Lowest attendance since 1979 in A’s vs. Diamondbacks series opener

The Oakland Coliseum hit a new low as the A’s recorded their lowest attendance since 1979 in Monday’s matchup against the Diamondbacks. 

While the A’s have flirted with this record all season, including a couple games with just 2500 fans in early May, the attendance recorded for the series opener vs. the Diamondbacks came in at an embarrassing 2064.

This was the lowest attendance seen since a game on September 19th, 1979, where barely over 1000 fans attended. In the 1979 season, the A’s finished with 108 losses.

However, as sad as it may seem, the A’s are on pace to have an even worse season this year. They have by far the worst record in the MLB, as they are still below 10 wins. If the A’s manage to continue at this pace, they will finish up with around 125–130 losses. This would be a new MLB record.

Fans have made it clear that if the owner does not care about the team, then neither will they.

Unless owner John Fisher finally decides to spend some money, this trend is showing no signs of reversing.
