It has been a wild offseason for Diego Castillo
Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

Diego Castillo, a 26-year-old infielder from Venezuela, has recently endured a tumultuous few weeks as he navigates through various waiver moves.

Last season, Castillo spent the majority of his time with the Reno Aces. Down in Triple-A, he posted a .313 batting average and an .840 OPS. His sole appearance with the Diamondbacks occurred on July 31st in the 10th inning of a game against the Giants, where he flew out to right field.

On November 22nd, Arizona designated Castillo for assignment, triggering a series of waiver transactions across the league.

First, the New York Mets acquired Diego on January 5th. Then, the Yankees claimed him off waivers from the Mets. Finally, most recently, the Phillies joined in on the action by scooping up Castillo on February 5th.

In total, since the offseason begun, Castillo has been with 4 different teams.

Despite receiving only one at-bat with the Diamondbacks, Castillo had a substantial stint in the majors during the 2022 season with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Playing multiple positions, including 2nd base, shortstop, right field, and 1st base, he ended the season with a .206 batting average and 11 home runs.
