Guardians 3, White Sox 0: Bats silent in opener

The White Sox opened a three-game series with the Guardians today, and it did not start the way the Sox would have hoped.

Coming off a 5-1 week against the Guardians, and Royals, the Sox looked to build upon that heading into today. Before today’s ballgame, the Sox called up Jesse Scholtens for the injured Mike Clevenger, who hit the 15-day IL.

Jimmy Lambert took the ball as an opener. He tossed one scoreless inning, then handed the ball off to Scholtens, who threw the ball well. The one blemish on the day for him was the wild pitch in the second that allowed a run to score. Aside from that, he was all the Sox could have hoped for. unfortunately, the bullpen’s scoreless streak ended in this one, as Gregory Santos allowed a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to make it a 3-0 Guardians and put the game out of reach for good.

The biggest problem? The Sox’ bats were nowhere to be found. Hunter Gaddis had no trouble carving up the White Sox offensive today, throwing five scoreless innings of two-hit baseball with four strikeouts—the first of nine total strikeouts on the day for the White Sox.

With the loss, the White Sox fall to 19-30.
