Friars Righty Reliever Lands in The IL
USA TODAY Sports

The San Diego Padres just suffered another injury to their bullpen. We learned earlier today that relief pitcher Luis García will head to the 15-day IL with a left oblique strain.

The move was retroactive on May 25th, so the earliest he could return is June 10th which would be against division rivals Colorado Rockies. The Friars will be calling up right-handed pitcher Domingo Tapia, who has a 3.18 ERA, 12 strikeouts, and a 0-1 record in 10 games and 11.1 innings.

Hopefully, this 15-day IL doesn't get extended like the other injuries that have this season. San Diego can't afford any more injuries, especially in the bullpen department.

In the 21 games, García has a 1-3 record with a 4.66 ERA, 20 strikeouts, and a 1.45 WHIP in 19.1 innings. The righty has been lights out in his last seven games, where he's allowed only three hits, zero earned runs, and eight strikeouts in 5.2 innings.

We wish Luis a speedy recovery, and we hope to see him on the mound sooner rather than later.
