Dodgers Rumors: Freddie Freeman Makes Push for LA to Re-Sign One Specific Free Agent
USA TODAY Sports

As the Dodgers get set to fully get into their offseason, they have a few of their own players that they have to make decisions on. One of them is veteran outfielder Jason Heyward, who is hitting the free-agent market.

Heyward was great for LA this past season, and there is interest in a reunion between the two sides. And it seems that LA first baseman Freddie Freeman is pushing to have him re-sign for next year.

“I was just so happy that he was in our organization and I don’t know what the offseason is gonna tell us but I hope he’s in a Dodgers uniform again next year.”

Freeman and Heyward are good friends, and getting him back would appease the Dodgers star. We could see the team making a run to bring him back, if anything just to keep Freeman feeling good about his standing in the organization.

But it wouldn’t just be a pity to bring him back, as Heyward more than earned a chance to return. He was one of the more productive members of the Dodgers from this past season, and LA does need another outfielder for the upcoming year.

Heyward hit .269 with 15 home runs and 40 runs batted in for the team last season, and he helped them bolster their outfield. But the issue with Heyward is whether or not the Dodgers trust that he can replicate his success again.

Will magic strike twice? Or will Heyward regress back into the player he was prior to joining the Dodgers that saw him be forced to sign a minor-league deal with LA? The front office is likely weighing this as they decide if they want to bring him back.

LA could probably upgrade their roster by replacing Heyward, but his leadership was invaluable this season. He took some of the younger guys under his wing, and this could be a point in his favor with the front office for his return.
