Detroit Tigers Roster Moves 2/29

Today the Detroit Tigers claimed infielder Buddy Kennedy off waivers. Kennedy had been placed on waivers by the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals designated him for assignment earlier this week. In a corresponding move for the Tigers to make room for Kennedy, they designated infielder Andre Lipcius for assignment.

Roster Moves By The Numbers

Buddy Kennedy

Kennedy was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fifth round of the 2017 draft. In the minors he played in 498 games, and he slashed .285/.380/.437 with a .817 OPS; he had 93 doubles, 26 triples, 45 home runs, 251 RBI, 323 runs scored, 40 stolen bases, and 272 walks. He made his big-league debut on June 17, 2022, he went 1-3 with a run scored and a walk. With the Diamondbacks between 2022 and 2023, he played in 40 games and slashed .206/.293/.299 with a .592 OPS; he had three doubles, two triples, one home run, 13 RBI, 11 runs scored, and 12 walks. Kennedy was claimed off waiver on September 9, 2023, by the Oakland A’s then he was claimed by the Cardinals on October 25, 2023.

Andre Lipcius

Lipcius was drafted by the Tigers in the third round of the 2019 draft. In the Tigers system from 2019-2023, he played in 421 games and slashed .266/.358/.409 with a .767 OPS; he had 88 doubles, eight triples, 38 home runs, 212 RBI, 223 runs scored, 24 stolen bases, and 220 walks. He made his big-league debut on September 1, 2023, going 1-2 with a strikeout. He played in 13 games slashing .286/.342/.400 with a .742 OPS; he had one double, one home run, four RBI, three runs scored, and three walks.
