Could Yankees Top Prospect Debut With Club Shortly? Brian Cashman Gives Confusing Answer

The New York Yankees seem to be out of playoff contention this season.

New York at one point appeared poised to compete for a World Series title this season, but injuries and inconsistent play derailed the season. The Yankees currently are nine-and-a-half games out of an American League Wild Card spot and have had a disastrous month of August. The Yankees are 1-9 over their last 10 games and at this point likely are turning their focus to the 2024 campaign. 

The Yankees already have called up infielder Oswald Peraza and outfielder Everson Pereira, but could another move be coming? Exciting outfield prospect Jasson Domínguez recently was called up to the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders but many have wondered if he could make an appearance in the big leagues this season. New York general manager Brian Cashman was asked about Domínguez's future but gave a noncommittal answer, according to the New York Daily News Sports' Gary Phillips. 

"Asked if Jasson Domínguez could play for the Yankees this season, Brian Cashman said 'we'll see,'" Phillips said. "Stopped far short of leaning any particular way, though. 'I can't give you one way or the other whether that's realistic or not.'"

At this point, the Yankees clearly are turning their focus to the 2024 campaign, so a call-up of Domínguez could make some sense. The 20-year-old has impressed this season in the minor leagues. In 109 games with the Double-A Somerset Patriots, Domínguez slashed .254/.367/.414 to go along with 15 home runs, 37 stolen bases, and 66 RBIs. The young outfielder has made three appearances in Triple-A and already has collected three hits, three RBIs, and a stolen base. 

Hopefully, Domínguez can make the jump to the big leagues this season, but even if he is not able to, the future is bright.
