The 2-14 Chicago White Sox are in the middle game of a three-game series with the division rival Kansas City Royals. They lost game one 2-0 last night and will try and even the series tonight. The Royals got Eloy Jimenez back yesterday from the injured list, but this team still has holes left by Yoan Moncada and Luis Robert Jr. Today they announced several roster moves ahead of the second game of the series with the Royals.

RHP – Josimar Cousin

Cousins had recently been activated from the injured list by the Birmingham Barons the Double-A affiliate of the White Sox. Today the White Sox designated Cousins for assignment before even pitching an inning this year.

LHP- Jared Shuster

The White Sox optioned Shuster to the Triple-A affiliate Charlotte Knights. He has appeared in two games so far this year for the White Sox. He worked 6.1 innings allowing five hits, one earned run, walking two, and striking out four. He currently has a 1.42 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP on the year for the White Sox.

RHP – Jonathan Cannon

The White Sox selected the contract of Jonathan Cannon from Triple-A Charlotte today. He has made two starts for Charlotte this year so far. He has worked 9.2 innings allowing nine hits, three earned runs, one home run, five walks, and 11 strikeouts. He has a 2.79 ERA and a 1.55 WHIP on the year with Charlotte.

OF – Tommy Pham

The White Sox finalized a minor league contract with veteran outfielder Tommy Pham today. Last year Pham played in 129 total games between the New York Mets and the Arizona Diamondbacks. He ended the year with the Diamondbacks as they made their push to the World Series. He slashed .256/.328/.426 with a .774 OPS in 2023 in 129 games.

Wrap Up:

The White Sox are a mess to start the season and the signing of Pham in my opinion is a good one as he brings decent pop and average defense to an outfield that is missing its top start in Robert for the next six to eight weeks. He should find his way on the major league roster after making a stop in triple a to get his spring at-bats in. Cannon is an arm I’m interested in watching once deployed by the White Sox, it’s only been two starts for Charlotte, but he has had some success. This team has plenty of needs right now. So an encouraging outing from a minor league to provide some glimmer of hope would be great for the fan base.
