Brewers coaching staff likely won't see many major changes

During last year’s offseason, the Brewers made some changes to their coaching staff. They brought in two external coaches in Ozzie Timmons and Connor Dawson, split duties as co-hitting coaches, and promoted from within was Jim Henderson and Matt Erickson. Henderson became the bullpen coach and Erickson was the infield instructor and assistant hitting coach. Matt Arnold recently commented that he does not expect any major changes to the 2023 coaching staff.

Last year the Brewer offense finished 11th overall in regards to wRC+.  Timmons and Dawson will now have a full offseason to work with their players. Last year, they were unable to connect with anyone due to the lockout.

Chris Hook has been the Brewers pitching coach since 2018. Prior to that, he had served in the Brewers minor league organization. Pat Murphy is the Brewers bench coach in which he has been with the team since Counsell took over in 2015.

What about manager Craig Counsell?  Will he be returning to the Brewers in 2023?

Craig Counsell has one year remaining on his contract and is expected to return next season. Counsell was with Arnold at Winter Meetings. However, Arnold has been reluctant to talk about Counsell’s contract situation after the 2023 season.

In an article from Todd Rosiak, Arnold had the following quote when asked about extending Counsell.

“He and I had a lot of conversations about that,” Arnold said. “We’ll spend more time on it, I think, as the season progresses.”

Arnold’s comments make it seem like we will not see an extension for Counsell this offseason. The two have clearly talked about it, but only time will tell if Counsell continues to manage beyond 2023.
