Brandon Nimmo Developing Into Super Star For New York Mets
USA TODAY Sports

When the Mets were eliminated from the 2022 playoffs, outfielder Brandon Nimmo stood at his locker in his full uniform, and talked about his impending free agency.

Nimmo expressed his desire to come back, but intended to explore the open market.

As one of the most coveted outfielders available, Nimmo would surely not be devoid of suitors and with Scott Boras as his agent, the Wyoming native was slated to get a massive deal.

Then on Dec. 10, the longtime Met choose to stay in Queens for the long haul when he signed an eight-year, $162 million deal.

A former first round pick of the Mets in 2011, Nimmo came into his own at the big league level during his third MLB season in 2018 when he logged 4.8 fWAR over 140 games.

In two of the next three years, however, Nimmo dealt with the injury bug, and while he performed when healthy, he missed a large portion of games.

Last year again proved how valuable Nimmo can be over a full season as he was worth 5.3 fWAR in a career high 151 games.

So far this year, Nimmo is proving that his extension was worth every penny, as he has been one of the teams top contributors yet again.

In 21 games, Nimmo has two home runs, 12 RBIs, three stolen bases, a .368/.479/.526 triple slash, a 183 wRC+, .442 wOBA and has already put up 1.6 fWAR.

Despite his success at the plate, Nimmo has become a human highlight reel in center field.

In 168 innings so far defensively, Nimmo has one defensive run saved, a 0.7 UZR and his outs above average is in the 96th percentile according to Baseball Savant.

From humble beginnings as a Wyoming high schooler whose school didn’t even have a baseball team, to a massive contributor to the New York Mets, Nimmo has become an integral part to the team and is slated to continue that for years to come.
