Blue Jays could sign former Dodgers star?

The Toronto Blue Jays could be trying for at least some kind of revenge on the Los Angeles Dodgers for the Shohei Ohtani saga.

Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reported this week that the Blue Jays have an interest in signing ex-Dodgers star J.D. Martinez as a veteran run producer. Matheson notes that Martinez should be available on a two-year deal.

Martinez, 36, was an All-Star last season for the Dodgers (the sixth such selection of his career). As their full-time designated hitter, Martinez hit .271 with 33 home runs, 103 RBIs, and a .893 OPS. But with Ohtani arriving in Los Angeles this offseason as the new DH, Martinez needs a new team.

That works for the Blue Jays, who need some power in the middle of their order. Brandon Belt and Whit Merrifield are among Toronto’s free agents this offseason, but there are admittedly a few other notable teams also in the mix to sign Martinez.
