Baltimore Orioles Receive Strong Grades to Start the MLB Season
Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Orioles recently finished up their first month of the season, and by all accounts, things are going pretty well for the team.

In April, the Orioles finished with an 18-10 record and are one of the contenders in the AL East, as expected. Baltimore does have some competition in the division with the New York Yankees, who are also looking like a playoff contender.

ESPN recently handed out grades for every team in the MLB for the first month of the season. As expected with a good record, the Orioles received a solid grade of A-. Here’s what ESPN had to say about the

There are huge positives all over the place: With Gunnar Henderson leading the way, the Orioles are mashing a ton of home runs and getting surprising pop from the likes of Colton Cowser and Jordan Westburg, which gives the lineup more length than it had a year ago. Burnes has pitched like the ace they needed with Kyle Bradish on the IL. On the other hand, aside from Burnes and two scoreless starts from Albert Suarez, the rest of the rotation has been more mediocre than good. Baltimore also sort of messed up the Jackson Holliday promotion and is facing its first AL East team of the season in taking on the Yankees this week. Still, in general, there’s nothing here that suggests the Orioles won’t be World Series contenders.

The Orioles are off to a good start, but there is still some room for improvement. One of the biggest mistakes so far seems to be them bringing up one of the most touted prospects in Jackson Holiday. Holiday got off to a really bad start but should get another shot for the Orioles later in the season.

If Holiday can come back up to the majors and make an impact, the Orioles’ lineup will just keep getting better.

Overall, it was a solid start for the Orioles in April. With one of the best lineups in April, expect to see good grades continuing for the Orioles.
