As well as making the Lourdes Gurriel Jr. signing official, the Arizona Diamondbacks announced that they have designated INF Diego Castillo for assignment.

Castillo played with the Reno Aces last season. During his time in triple-A, he posted an impressive .313 batting average while scoring 94 runs and recording an .840 OPS.

The 26-year-old does have some brief experience in the major leagues, as he made his debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2022. However, through 96 games with the Pirates, Castillo struggled at the plate, posting a .206 batting average and striking out 75 times.

Castillo played in just one game with the Diamondbacks, and it came on July 31st during a pinch-hit appearance in the 10th inning. He flied out to right field in this lone plate appearance.
