The next stop of the 2024 golfing season sees the player reach the renowned Riviera Country Club to appear at the Genesis Invitational. This event will mark the return of Tiger Woods, who will make his first PGA Tour in over 10 months. He has now been paired with another returning star Gary Woodland and his close friend Justin Thomas.

This is now the second straight year where the golf great has been paired up with Thomas. Last year, when Woods made his presence felt at the Genesis Open, this two golfers were grouped together with Rory McIlroy.

The 48-year-old golfer last’ official PGA Tour start came at the Masters in April in 2023. Despite making the cut, he was forced to take back his name due to an ankle injury which kept him out for a while. Following this he has made two starts at the Hero World Challenge and the PNC Championship.

It remains to be seen whether the 82-time PGA Tour champion will perform good enough to qualify for the 36-hole cut. A major reason for this is due to his form and the rustiness that could be with him after being sidelined for so long. Another interesting fact is that Woods has never conquered this course before in his life and is still waiting for his victory at the famous greens of the Riviera.

Apart from him, the eyes of the golfing world will be on Gary Woodland as well. The 2019 U.S. Open champion recently came back from a serious brain surgery and took part in the Sony Open. Woodland is also one of the three players apart from Adam Scott and Will Zalatoris to receive a sponsor invitation from Woods.

Justin Thomas embarks on comeback journey

Gary Woodland and Justin Thomas have both embarked on a comeback journey in 2024. While Woodland returns from a medical condition, Thomas is eyeing to comeback in form this year.

Thomas endured one of the toughest phases of his career last year. He failed to make cuts at several events. The two-time major champion though seems to be right back on the track after a disappointing season.

Things though have changed. So far this season, he has made three starts and achieved two top 10 finishes, along with this a solid 12th place finish in the Phoenix Open last weekend. This gives him the confidence of bouncing back strongly.

During the recent Genesis Invitational Pro-Am, the American golfer ended up firing a hole-in-one, signaling signs of a strong performance. He will now be hoping to keep this going as he prepares for a huge year ahead of him.
