David Puig earns share of lead at LIV Greenbrier

Spain's David Puig fired a 5-under 65 on Saturday to claim a share of the lead after two rounds at LIV Golf Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.

Puig sits at 12-under 128 for the tournament, matching first-round leader Matthew Wolff. Wolff shot a 3-under 67 on Saturday at The Old White Course at The Greenbrier resort.

"Everything went pretty good. Been hitting the ball pretty good and putting also very good," Puig said. "There's no secret, just hitting fairways and greens and making some putts."

After picking up a pair of birdies on the front nine, Puig heated up on the back, grabbing birdies at Nos. 10, 11 and 12 before recording his first bogey of the day at the par-4 13th. But that would be Puig's only blemish, as he posted a clean card the rest of the way while adding his sixth and final birdie at the par-5 17th.

Puig plans to keep the same approach for Sunday's final round, even with some inclement weather scheduled to come through during the afternoon.

"I think the course is going to play pretty much the same, even though we tee off in the morning," Puig said. "Just keep doing the same thing."

Meanwhile, Wolff finished with five birdies against two bogeys.

"(Sunday) is going to be a lot of fun, and I'm going to give it my all, and we'll see what happens," Wolff said.

Bryson DeChambeau fired the low round of the day with a 9-under 61 to climb 22 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for third, one stroke off the lead. He racked up nine birdies while turning in a bogey-free card.

"Drove it really well. Actually didn't drive it as well as I did (Friday), but I scored so much better (Saturday), obviously," DeChambeau said. "Made a lot of putts. Had a couple 30-footers in there that you've got to have in order to shoot 8-, 9-under, and hit some good iron shots in there. Man, just the greens are super soft, and I spun a lot of wedges off the flag.

"Gotta work on that a little bit, try and dial that in. Otherwise it was a fantastic round."

Also tied for third are Englishman Richard Bland (63 on Saturday) and Talor Gooch (64). Brendan Steele (63), South Africa's Branden Grace (64) Harold Varner III (67) and Mito Pereira of Chile (62) find themselves in a four-tie for sixth.

Puig's squad, Torque GC, currently sits atop the leaderboard in team play at 34 under. Stinger GC is in second at 30 under, and Crushers GC rounds out the top three, eight strokes back.
