Alan Angels Is Very Happy With His Progress, Wanted An ‘Eddie Guerrero’ Path In Wrestling

Alan Angels is where he wants to be in his pro wrestling career.

WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard spoke with Alan Angels ahead of Bound For Glory weekend in Chicago. Angels is scheduled to compete against Samuray Del Sol at IMPACT’s BFG Fallout tapings on Sunday night.

Angels got a chance to share the ring with him in a six-way match at IMPACT 1000, and he’s excited about the chance for another big stage.

“Samuray is a great competitor, he’s awesome. I got a little bit of a chance to get in the ring with him in the Ultimate X match on the 1000th episode of IMPACT. So I got a little bit of a taste, but I’m super excited to have a one-on-one match with him. It should be really fun. He’s a great competitor. I remember he wrestled and tagged a lot with my trainer when I first started, AR Fox. They did a lot of stuff together. So there’s a guy that I watched a lot, especially when I was first starting. So it’s cool I get to actually have that one-on-one match with him on a big stage like the Bound For Glory Fallout show. I’m really excited for that.”

Chicago Bound

At this time, Angels does not have a match on the Bound For Glory pay-per-view card. He’s been a regular in the X Division this year, but he hopes he gets the call for another match on the PPV.

“There is the Call Your Shot gauntlet, so [I’d like to] possibly be in it, but not too sure. We’ll see. But just to get the chance to wrestle on a Bound For Glory is so big for me and it’d be such a cool thing to do, especially because I went to Bound For Glory in 2007 as a fan. It was there in Atlanta. So to get to be able to be on that show on that big of a stage in Chicago with that great crowd,” Angels said, “Cicero Stadium is a great venue with a great crowd. To be on the biggest show of the year would be awesome, so we’ll see. Who knows.”

When he left All Elite Wrestling, Angels issued a statement and said he saw free agency as a chance to prove himself. Angels wanted to show people he was one of the best wrestlers in the world, so how has he evaluated his career since making that declaration?

On the right path

“Well, I’ve been signed to another major company in IMPACT Wrestling. Which I would say is number one because you have to have that machine behind you, I believe. But also, a big part of it was I just wanted to become a star away from the machine,” Angels explained. “I always pictured myself having a career like an Eddie Guerrero or a Chris Jericho. They kind of traveled the world before they became household names. They did a bunch of things before they were signed to that big company, and I kind of wanted to do that.

“I love doing all these indie shows that are all over the country, all over the world. And I love doing that and wrestling with a bunch of different people seeing me wrestle. To also do that with IMPACT is an amazing thing,” Alan Angels added. “I love IMPACT, I’ve always loved IMPACT. I remember even before I was here just saying how much I thought IMPACT was killing it right now, especially the X-Division. They have guys like Ace Austin, Chris Bey, Trey Miguel, and just thinking how much those guys were killing it and how much I wanted to be a part of that. So that in itself is a major goal that I’ve reached.

“I would say within the last year, that it’s gone pretty well. I think I’m exactly where I want to be and where I kind of was expecting to be right now, so I’m very happy with it.”
