Star quarterback backtracks on NFL Draft declaration

Former Washington State quarterback Cameron Ward pulled a 180 this week after declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft earlier just weeks ago.

Ward reportedly shifted gears on Saturday by committing to the University of Miami.

The 21-year-old quarterback did not sign with an agent upon initially declaring for the NFL Draft. The move preserved the option for Ward to stay in college. Ward reportedly received several seven-figure NIL offers from various schools before flirting with going pro.

Ward was heavily linked to a powerhouse Big Ten squad and several other top programs before deciding to commit to Miami.

Washington State finished with a 5-7 record last season. But despite the middling record, Ward posted a stellar 2023 campaign as a passer with 3,732 yards for 25 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also rushed for eight touchdowns.

Ward is slated to replace Miami’s 2023 starter Tyler Van Dyke, who transferred to a Big Ten school in December.
