A key Tennessee Vols defender was arrested on Monday morning according to a report from the Knoxville News Sentinel

Adam Sparks reported on Monday afternoon that Vols sophomore edge rusher James Pearce was arrested after a traffic stop around 8:20 AM on Monday.

According to Sparks' report, Pearce was stopped on Monday morning on suspicion of speeding and driving with a suspended license. Sparks reported that Pearce refused to follow directions from police during the traffic stop, which led to his arrest.

From KnoxNews.com: Police said Pearce refused to follow instructions during the traffic stop.

According to the report, Pearce was asked to turn off the vehicle and step out of it. But he had to be instructed multiple times before doing so.

Pearce was then told that his car would be towed and that he was to stand by assisting officers while police searched the vehicle. But the officer said Pearce disregarded those instructions and walked towards the vehicle. Pearce was charged with speeding, driving on suspended license, failure to present insurance, registration improperly displayed and improper window tinting.

Further information about the incident is included in Sparks' report.

A Tennessee spokesperson told the Knoxville News Sentinel that they're aware of the situation and awaiting more information.

Pearce enjoyed a breakout season for the Vols in 2023, totaling 24 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, and 10.5 sacks.
