Kentucky fined $250,000 for fans storming field after win over Florida

The Kentucky Wildcats improved to 5-0 on the season via Saturday's 20-13 victory over the Florida Gators, a result that will prove costly because of what occurred after the game clock expired.

As Mark Schlabach reported for ESPN, the Southeastern Conference announced Monday that it fined Kentucky $250,000 for the school's latest violation of a rule pertaining to fans storming the field.

The Wildcats were last fined $100,000 regarding the rule following an upset win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Sept. 22, 2018. All fine money goes to the SEC Post-Graduate Scholarship Fund.

The SEC policy first enforced in 2004 states:

"Access to competition areas shall be limited to participating student-athletes, coaches, officials, support personnel and properly-credentialed individuals at all times. For the safety of participants and spectators alike, at no time before, during or after a contest shall spectators be permitted to enter the competition area. It is the responsibility of each member institution to implement procedures to ensure compliance with this policy."

According to Schlabach, Kentucky is 5-0 for the first time since 2018 and for only the fourth time in the past 70 college football seasons. The Wildcats host the 3-2 LSU Tigers this coming Saturday.
