3 programs in the mix to land former Tennessee Vols DL Tyler Baron out of the NCAA transfer portal
Bryan Lynn-USA TODAY Sports

Former Tennessee Vols defensive lineman Tyler Baron appears to be down to three transfer options as he nears a decision on where he'll be playing college football in 2024.

Baron, who spent the first four years of his career at Tennessee, initially committed to Ole Miss this offseason before transferring to Louisville.

The former Vol went through spring practice with the Cardinals before re-entering the transfer portal.

Because Baron transferred to an ACC school in January, he's eligible to transfer to an SEC school despite re-entering the portal during the spring window (it's a bit of a loophole).

Based on reporting from On3's Pete Nakos, it appears that three schools are vying for Baron's services.

Miami, Ole Miss, and USC are the three programs that are currently in the mix for Baron.

According to Nakos, Baron took a trip to USC this past weekend that went "well". Baron also recently visited Miami.

Ole Miss has "remained in the picture" in the battle for Baron.

Baron, a former four-star recruit, is coming off his best collegiate season in 2023, totaling six sacks, 10.5 tackles for loss, and 28 total tackles while playing in 12 games for the Vols.

Earlier this offseason, former Georgia Bulldogs offensive lineman Amarius Mims, a first round selection by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2024 NFL Draft, said that Baron was the toughest player he had to block last season.
