Tom Izzo Ties Bob Knight For Another Big Ten Record
USA TODAY Sports

As Michigan State men's basketball tips off against Maryland, head coach Tom Izzo has now tied legendary Indiana coach Bob Knight atop another Big Ten record.

Tonight marks Izzo's 504th conference game as a head coach, which matches Knight for the most all-time. It's just another milestone in a career full of them for MSU's head man, who won his 700th career game when the Spartans defeated rival Michigan, 81-62, earlier this week. Izzo is the only Big Ten head coach to reach 700 wins at a conference school. Last season, he passed Knight (663) for the most wins at a Big Ten school.

As head coach of the Hoosiers from 1971 through 2000, Knight won 70% of his Big Ten Conference games with a 353-151 career record in league play. Izzo, who's tenure began in 1995, holds a 338-165 record in Big Ten play entering tonight's game against the Terrapins, a .672 winning percentage.

Barring something unexpected, Izzo will stand alone having coached in more Big Ten games than any other when Michigan State travels to Minnesota next Tuesday (Feb. 4).
