Watch: Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. was so disappointed in his son for quitting on stool

Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. could not have been more disappointed with the way his son lost his fight on Friday night against Daniel Jacobs at Talking Stick Arena in Phoenix, Arizona.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. lost when he quit on his stool after the fifth round against Jacobs. Chavez Jr. complained after the fight that he couldn’t breathe due to a broken nose, which was caused by a headbutt and elbow.

“I couldn’t breathe. I was swelling, a lot of blood,” Chavez Jr. said in a postfight interview with DAZN’s Chris Mannix. “He didn’t beat me by fighting. He elbowed me, he headbutted me.”

Chavez Sr. was in attendance for the fight and looked disgusted with the result. He shook his head and put his head in his hand in apparent disappointment.

Chavez Sr. was known for being one of the toughest fighters in history and recognized for having an extremely strong chin, meaning he was very hard to knock down. He’s the type who would advocate fighting through nearly any condition, which helps explain his reaction.

Fans were upset with Chavez Jr. over the fight outcome. They booed and threw drinks at Chavez Jr. as he exited the ring:

The fight was moved from Las Vegas to Phoenix at the last minute after Chavez Jr. failed a drug test by avoiding it. Chavez Jr. was suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission as a result.

Chavez Jr. has twice failed drug tests for fights and has been questioned for his effort in fights. Canelo Alvarez has previously said that Chavez Jr. has “embarrassed” boxing. The 33-year-old is now 51-4-1.
