Bomac Rules Out Crawford vs Eubank Jr. – ‘Fake News’
Sipa USA

Terence Crawford’s trainer, Brian McIntyre, has ruled out a fight with Chris Eubank Jr.

Reports indicate that Crawford could face Eubank Jr. at 160 pounds. Both boxers are trained by Bomac, making it potentially easier to make that fight. This also plays into the narrative that Crawford wants to face Canelo Alvarez at 168 pounds for his Undisputed Super Middleweight Title. Having a fight at 160 would prepare Crawford for that.

Bud targeted Canelo after the Errol Spence Jr. rematch broke down, but the Mexican dismissed that fight. Canelo stated he would get no praise for beating a 147-pound fighter. Alvarez now takes on Jaime Munguia on May 4, ruling out Bud.

As for Eubank, he has yet to have a fight since beating Liam Smith. He stopped Smith in round ten, avenging his defeat in the first fight when he was stopped in round four. A bout with Eubank only makes sense in the UK. Eubank Jr. is not a big name in the US, but a UK fight gives Crawford a big payday. Eubank Jr. increased hopes of the fight happening, sharing a poster of the two fighters on his social media. Rick Glaser also reported that talks were ongoing.

Crawford vs Eubank Jr.

Despite this being the case, Bomac has ruled out that fight.

“It’s fake news man I don’t know who put that out there. Somebody said Eubank did. He could be just playing, or something like that. But, you know, stay in the gym, so anything come his way he’ll be ready for it,” Bomac said

Eddie Hearn doubled down on those comments, saying the fight was never happening.

“Unbelievable. I just saw a pig come through the sky and through my office. Unbelievable. The fight ain’t happening. There’s no money in the fight. It’s a fight Eubank Jr. can’t win. They’ve got the same trainer. What else do you want? Crawford against [Israil] Madrimov, if Terence wants to step up and have a little quick fight for a 154-pound title, that we’re open to,” Hearn stated

Crawford’s Future

That leaves Crawford short of options. If he wants to become a three-weight undisputed champion, he may have to move up to 154 pounds if the Canelo fight fails. Tim Tszyu is the WBO Junior Welterweight Champion. Jermell Charlo, the former Undisputed Junior Middleweight Champion, has vacated the rest of the belts.

That gives Bud the chance to target those belts. But given that he is unlikely to face a big name, does Crawford want to pursue that or chase the money fights? As for Eubank Jr, he faces the same problem now that the Conor Benn fight is off following the latter’s two failed VADA tests for Clomiphene.
