The reigning World Champion Texas Rangers have been solidifying their upper minors depth over the past couple of weeks. Amidst a flurry of deals, the Rangers signed former SF Giants catcher Andrew Knapp to a minor-league contract.
The Texas Rangers announced the signings of seven players to minor-league contracts this afternoon. Former Phillies backstop Andrew Knapp was among them.
The signings of Diego Castillo and Jesus Tinoco were previously reported, and Texas’ group included three more players with MLB experience — outfielder Derek Hill, catcher Andrew Knapp and outfielder Elier Hernandez.
The Astros are in agreement on a minor league pact with catcher Andrew Knapp, the club informed reporters (including Chandler Rome of the Athletic). He’ll report to Triple-A Sugar Land.

Akiyama’s three-year, $21M contract gives him the right to decline a minor league assignment, and he already turned down a visit to Triple-A near the end of the 2021 season.
