A well-known staff for Team Puerto Rico
The coaching staff for Team Puerto Rico in the 2013 World Baseball Classic will include a number of familiar names.
The manager, according to major-league sources, will be Edwin Rodriguez, who managed the Marlins for parts of 2010 and ’11 and currently manages the Indians’ Double A affiliate.
Rodriguez’s staff, sources say, will include three former major leaguers - Carlos Delgado as hitting coach, Carlos Baerga as first base coach and Alex Cora as bench coach.
Delgado, who turns 40 on June 25, hit 473 homers, had a .929 OPS and made two All-Star teams during his 17-year career.
Baerga, 43, was a three-time All-Star with the Indians and played for six teams over 14 years, finishing with a .291 career batting average.
Cora, 36, also played for six teams over 14 years, including the World Series champion 2007 Red Sox. He is widely regarded as a future managerial candidate.
