Source: Indians, Jose Lopez in serious talks
The Indians, looking for a right-handed bat to help balance their predominantly left-handed lineup, have had serious discussions with free-agent infielder Jose Lopez, a major-league source told FOXSports.com.
Lopez has posted an OPS of just .611 over the past two years, but he was an All-Star at age 22 and hit 25 home runs three seasons ago. He hit .226/.259/.472 in 82 games for the Rockies and Marlins this year while playing first, second, and third base.
The Indians have been looking for an upgrade over Matt LaPorta at first base, while left-handed-hitting prospect Lonnie Chisenhall is likely to start at third in 2012.
