Sources: Farrell close to becoming Jays next manager
John Farrell is the frontrunner to become the next manager of the Toronto Blue Jays, a major-league source confirmed to FOXSports.com.
The Jays interviewed numerous candidates for the post but were most impressed by Farrell, the source indicated. The person said it will be a surprise if Farrell is not announced as the team’s new manager within the next week or so.
Farrell has been the Boston Red Sox pitching coach for the past four seasons. He was previously the player development director of the Cleveland Indians and appeared in 116 games as a big-league pitcher between 1987 and 1996.
Peter Gammons, of NESN and MLB.com, reported earlier Thursday that three general managers said Farrell would get the job.
