Sources: Cards, Nats discuss relievers
The Cardinals have been aggressive in their search for bullpen help and have spoken with the Nationals about their available relievers, major-league sources say.
Washington has made Todd Coffey available on the trade market. Coffey, who will be a free agent after this season, is 3-1 with a 3.92 ERA in 42 appearances.
Coffey had an ERA under 2.50 near the end of June but has struggled lately, with an 8.10 ERA and .856 OPS over his last 10 outings.
The Nationals would like to keep setup man Tyler Clippard, but it’s believed that he is available in the right deal.
