The New York Yankees have won negotiating rights to Japanese SS Hiroyuki Nakajima, according to a source.
There's no guarantee the Yankees will sign Nakajima, as both sides must now negotiate a contract. The Yankees now have a 30-day exclusive negotiating window with the 29-year old shortstop.
Nakajima strongly preferred playing for a team on the west coast, so it will be interesting to see if he's willing to play in New York in a utility role.
