Mariners president: League trade “not likely”
Seattle right-hander Brandon League is one of the most coveted players on this year’s trade market, an All-Star closer who might have even more value than San Diego counterpart Heath Bell.
The Padres are widely expected to trade Bell, because he’s going to become a free agent after this season. League, whom the Mariners control through next season, is apparently more likely to stay put.
Mariners club president Chuck Armstrong told FOXSports.com on Monday evening that a trade of League is “not likely at all – at this point.”
League has a 3.26 ERA and 23 saves in 41 appearances this year, his first full season as a closer.
The Reds are among the teams who have scouted Seattle pitchers (including League) in recent weeks.
